Room Keys.

As you all know I work at a Front Desk at a Hotel. One of my favorite question is that I get asked would be, "Do we need to turn theis back in." People are talking about room keys. We go through so many and just to prove it to you take a look at this......

.... A CNN Camera Man collected all of room keys in this tub from 1996 - 2008 while on the Campaign Trail. They are from 1,208 room keys and hotel reward card in this tub.  Now we do reuse them so give them back - what do you do with them...... :)

Newseum.

To get the day started we went to the Newseum. It is a newer museum in the DC area and not your typical one. We first started out by learning about the Berlin Wall – they have part of the real wall in the museum. Then we moved on to Famous Terrorists Attacks on our great Nation, again they have some amazing things from them. After that we moved on up to the very top of the museum and they have an observation deck , that once you walk out on to it you get a great shot of the United States of American’s Capital.  Also on that same level they have each day every major newspaper from all 50 states send them their front page and print them off and put them on display here as well as outside – so you can walk by and see what’s going on back home! Then we went on to a 9/11 part of the museum. It was amazing and so moving. It really reminds you what you were doing on that day and everyone that is important in your life. They also have part of the museum where they have Presidential first photos where they have some of their personal photos on display. Also in the museum they have part of it where major newspapers have impacted our history, and they go as far back as 1800’s. It is an overall good museum and I would recommend going.

Some of the following photos are from the Newseum from the events that happend on that very sad day.

Actual airplane parts from one of the airplanes that hit one of the towers. The landing gear is in the bottom right, it is the triangle looking thing and the things that are hanging are the engines.

All of the Newspapers from September 12 - the front covers from all 50 states.

Can you remember what ours looked like.....
...this is what we ran.

Batman.

Kevin, Erin, and Dad all are getting ready to go to BATMAN tonight at MIDNIGHT! Yes, my father is going to a midnight movie. We will see how this goes for them. It is currently raining out let’s hope it stops soon for them!

Mt. Vernon

For the second adventure we went on today was Mt. Vernon.  The home of former President Washington. We walked all around his grounds, through the slave quarters, his mansion, garden, and barns. We also got to walk by his and Mrs. Washington’s tomb. In the back there are 25 family members buried with them. Also we got to go down by the Potomac River where Washington had a dock. I had never been down there before it was absolutely amazing. I can only imagine what it looked like a few years ago.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

This morning we started off the day by Erin, Kevin and I taking the BLUE train into DC to meet Melissa and Dad who got up super early to get us tickets for the BEP. What is the BEP you ask it is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. They make most ALL of the United States of America’s paper money! We can’t take photos inside of the BEP so I don’t have too many to share but I do have a few. It was awesome! We got to see how all the money is made from start to finish! We also got to see what the new $100.00 bill looked like. However they have not started to printing them yet, today they were printing hundreds, LOTS and LOTS of them. I saw more money today then I will ever make in my life.

Comet Ping Pong.

Dinner tonight was at Comet Ping Pong. You might be thinking why that sounds familiar, no we do not have one in Des Moines, it was on the TV show, Diner, Drive Ins and Dives! It was such good pizza made from an old school pizza oven – wood and all. I even got to go in the Kitchen and see it! The reason this place is so cool is because for one the tables look like Ping Pong tables, and two  at the end of dinner they have Ping Pong tables in the back and you can play. So Kevin and I got our play on  - I kicked bootie – hahaha and then Kevin and Dad really played.
